How to Edit Videos FASTER โ€” 10 Tips from 10 Years Spent Editing

These are some really great tips. Some of it may be too advanced for recording and editing online course videos, but most apply to any kind of video.

  • ๐Ÿ–ฅ
Use multiple monitorsโ€”more screen real estate for everything you need to see
  • ๐Ÿ“ผ
Use stock videos for short supplementary clips (e.g. Storyblocks)
  • โŒจ๏ธ
Learn the keyboard shortcuts for your editing software
  • ๐Ÿ”—
Make "proxies" for better performance (small-resolution videos linked to the original)
  • ๐Ÿšฉ
Edit in stages / use markers to flag issues without getting sucked into them
  • โช
Edit backwards firstโ€”if you have retakes, you'll see the last retake (likely the best) first
  • ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿพ
Record editing cues while filming, for example by clapping
  • โ†”๏ธ
If using B-Roll content, use a separate timeline to select the best parts
  • ๐Ÿฅž
Stack multiple timeline sequences, making it easier to see, combine and arrange them
  • โš™๏ธ
Create presets for frequently used settings and effects

I highly recommend watching the video. It's pretty short (8 minutes), and Caleb demonstrates every one of the above tips with examples. ๐Ÿ‘‡
