How to Edit Videos FASTER โ 10 Tips from 10 Years Spent Editing
These are some really great tips. Some of it may be too advanced for recording and editing online course videos, but most apply to any kind of video.
- Use multiple monitorsโmore screen real estate for everything you need to see
- Use stock videos for short supplementary clips (e.g. Storyblocks)
- Learn the keyboard shortcuts for your editing software
- Make "proxies" for better performance (small-resolution videos linked to the original)
- Edit in stages / use markers to flag issues without getting sucked into them
- Edit backwards firstโif you have retakes, you'll see the last retake (likely the best) first
- Record editing cues while filming, for example by clapping
- If using B-Roll content, use a separate timeline to select the best parts
- Stack multiple timeline sequences, making it easier to see, combine and arrange them
- Create presets for frequently used settings and effects
I highly recommend watching the video. It's pretty short (8 minutes), and Caleb demonstrates every one of the above tips with examples.
